Aaron Rodgers is getting the full New York sports experience this weekend.
The new Jets quarterback is getting a taste of what playoff games in New York are like as he’s in attendance at Madison Square Garden Sunday afternoon for Game 1 of the Knicks’ second-round NBA playoff series against the Heat.
It was a quick turnaround for Rodgers, who was at the Garden on Saturday night for the Rangers’ Game 6 win over the Devils to force a Game 7 on Monday in Newark.
Rodgers was shown on the video board in the first quarter and waved to the crowd as he received an ovation.
Rodgers was at Saturday’s game with some of his new Jets teammates, including wide receiver Allen Lazard, whom Rodgers played with in Green Bay.
The Jets finally agreed to a trade for the former Packers quarterback last Monday, and he was introduced during a press conference in Florham Park on Wednesday.
Though the Jets are in the midst of a 12-year playoff drought, expectations for 2023 have skyrocketed beyond just making the postseason with the acquisition of Rodgers.
“I’m not showing up here to be part of a team that I think is OK,” Rodgers said on Wednesday. “Every year there’s a handful of teams that can win it. Most people don’t say that out loud. They say in training camp the goal is the same for all 32 teams but in actuality there’s anywhere from 8-12 teams that can actually do it and I believe we’re one of those teams.”
