Family Literacy Festival
Authors, Olympic athletes and Grammy-winning musicians will come together June 10 for the inaugural Family Literacy Festival hosted by the San Jose Public Library Foundation, Kristi Yamaguchi’s Always Dream and Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose.
Yamaguchi is both an Olympic gold medalist in figure skating and a children’s book author, and the festival will feature guests from both worlds. U.S. Silver figure skating champion Polina Edmunds, Olympic bronze medalists Maia and Alex Shibutani and children’s book authors Tim McCanna, Maggie Tokuda Hall and New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Fosberry will be on hand to read to kids. Grammy winners Alphabet Rockers and children’s musician AndyZ are set to perform.
The festival will take place at Children’s Discovery Museum, 180 Woz Way, at 9:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m. for the morning session and again from 1:30 p.m.- 4:30 p.m. Tickets are available at https://www.sjplf.org/kristi-yamaguchis-family-literacy-festival or at the door.

ROSE GARDEN>>Bellarmine College Preparatory has been named a Green Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education, one of only 26 schools in the nation—and one of two high schools in California—to be so honored. Additionally, for the second time since 2021, the school has been designated as a 2023 California Green Ribbon School, the corresponding state award.
The Green Ribbon program recognizes schools and school districts across the state for reducing environmental impact and costs; improving the health and wellness of schools, students and staff; and providing effective environmental education that effectively incorporates STEM, civic skills and green career pathways.
Bellarmine’s sustainability programs include an instructional garden that has been used to teach botany, marine biology and California history; use of biodegradable and environmentally friendly products in the kitchen; and solar panel installation. The private boys high school has received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, certification for several of its facilities.
