Prince William is ‘doing his best’ to fix this issue in the royal family just like Diana hoped to: royal expert

Prince William, 41, is carrying on the legacy of his late mother, Princess Diana, according to a royal expert.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond recently revealed that the Prince is intent on fixing the perceived “distance” that the monarchy can have from the public —something that Diana was allegedly keen on changing.

“Diana told me she thought the monarchy was too distant and too inaccessible and that she wanted to change it,” Bond claimed to OK! Magazine UK, per Marie Claire.

“William is doing his best to achieve that.”

Bond explained that one of the ways William is hoping to achieve this goal and follow in his mom’s footsteps is through his new initiative, Homewards, which aims to eradicate homelessness.

Prince William hopes to “prevent” homelessness, and “elevate” awareness around the issue.

“Harry has literally walked in his mother’s footsteps in Angola. But William is clearly intent on not only continuing but completing his mother’s work on tackling homelessness,” Bond said.

During an interview with The Sunday Times of London last month, he admitted that he was inspired by his mother, who often engaged in humanitarian work and took him to a homeless shelter when he was 11-years-old.

“Now he wants not simply to tackle homelessness, but eradicate it,” Bond claimed. “In almost everything he does and says, William is gently pushing the monarchy forward.”

She continued, “He knows, and has publicly said, that it it is his job to keep the monarchy relevant in modern society.”

In the past, Prince William hasn’t been shy when it comes to speaking about his royal duties.

During the interview with The Sunday Times, he candidly spoke about their roles and how others may perceive them.

“We’re all very busy, and I think it’s hard sometimes to see what the family bring and what we do,” Prince William admitted to the outlet.

He added that it was important for the family to spotlight other organizations and people in the United Kingdom.

“But the amount of causes, the interests, the dinners, the meetings, the visits, whatever it is, that we do day in, day out, throughout the year, we’ve always been involved in that. It’s part of what we do,” he continued.

The royal expert also noted that both Prince William and his brother, Prince Harry, are “invested” in many of the same causes that the late Princess believed in.

Last month, the two brothers came together to honor the annual Diana Award, which is given to a select number of young people who are working to change the world.

It is the only charity set up in Diana’s honor, per Town and Country, after she tragically passed away in August 1997 after a high-speed car-crash.

The brothers, who have had a bit of an estrangement from each other in the past few years, each shared separate video messages during the virtual ceremony.

“As we come together, I am reminded of the profound belief my mother held in the transformative power of young people,” Prince Harry said in his clip.

“She recognized their unique ability to challenge the status quo and push for a more inclusive and compassionate society,” Harry added. “Her legacy continues to inspire and serve as an example of how to navigate the complexities of our world today.”

In Prince Harry’s bombshell tell-all book, “Spare,” which was released this past January, he alleged that his brother had “attacked” him in November 2019, and even referred to him as his “arch nemesis.”

There also seemed to be some strain on royal relationships after the couple’s March 2021 sit-down interview with Oprah and their 2022 Netflix doc, “Harry and Meghan.

Bond also recently claimed that Diana would be the “only person” who could mend the ongoing rift between Prince William and Prince Harry.

“I’m sure her greatest wish would be to hug her boys again and find some way of resolving the rift between them,” Bond said. “If anyone could sort things out, it would have been Diana.”
