Ecology is the science of relationships between organisms and their environments. It reminds us that human tradition should reconnect with the pure world to construct sustainable futures. Introduced by the Taiwanese American Arts Council (TAAC), Eco Artwork on Island invitations artists to look at, expertise, and reply to island ecologies via cross-disciplinary inventive observe, recognizing that nobody is exterior to the social, cultural, and ecological methods shaping in the present day’s local weather disaster.
Opening Might 17, this six-month-long collection of exhibitions and packages at Home 17 on New York Metropolis’s Governors Island is a response to many years of prioritizing financial progress over sustainability, creative expression, and mental tradition. Local weather change is the results of unchecked materialism, and Eco Artwork on Island acknowledges it as a worldwide public well being emergency. We urgently want artists with environmental consciousness to “make the global local” and provides type to shared accountability.
Each Taiwan and Governors Island — the place TAAC’s residency is predicated — are geographically small and ecologically susceptible. With restricted land and publicity to environmental shifts, islands face intensified penalties when ecological consciousness is absent. Eco Artwork on Island brings artists, curators, medical professionals, and environmental specialists collectively in a collaborative method: creative expression, environmental advocacy, and psychological well being.
Fairly than revisit the Earthworks motion of the Sixties–70s, this challenge goals to provoke a forward-facing dialogue. The artists concerned have interaction with human ecology, cultural trauma, and planetary well being via localized, poetic, and socially engaged practices.
