Shooting outside Beyond Wonderland festival at Gorge Amphitheater leaves 2 dead

A gunman opened fire near a music festival Saturday night, killing two people according to police

Three people, including the shooter who was taken into police custody, were injured.

The shooting occurred at one of the campgrounds outside the Gorge Amphitheater in Quincy, Wash., during the sold-out Beyond Wonderland electronic dance music festival.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office said the alleged gunman randomly fired into a crowd of people at the campground around 8:23 local time — “several hundred yards away” from the venue.

The music festival had advised concert attendees on Twitter to stay away from the campground

“Please avoid the Gorge Gate H campgrounds area as it is closed due to an incident that has been handled by local authorities. There is no current danger to festival-goers or the campgrounds,” the tweet read.

The amphitheater, which holds 27,500 people, was hosting the first of the two-night festival and has several campgrounds around the venue, including one near the main entrance and a larger campground half a mile away, where the shooting is believed to have occurred, according to KIRO7.

Earlier in the evening police sent out a county-wide alert of an active shooter situation occurring at the amphitheater telling concertgoers to “seek cover. Run, hide or fight (the) suspect.”

The identity of the shooter was not revealed as of early Sunday morning.

The identity and ages of the victims were unknown, along with the types of weapons the gunman used or if there were any motives behind the shooting.

Despite the shooting occurring the concert continued while the shooting took place.

In a follow-up tweet, the festival thanked everyone for their cooperation and would provide updates after more information was made.

“Our team is actively collecting more information, and we will promptly provide further updates as they become available. We genuinely appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this matter,” the organizers said in a tweet.
