“Authorities are still determining the details, but we are devastated that a visitor lost their life,” a Whitney Museum spokesperson advised Hyperallergic. “Our thoughts are with their family and friends, and with our staff, visitors and neighbors who were nearby when it occurred.”
The identification of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of the household, police mentioned. The investigation stays ongoing.
The Whitney will open at midday on Thursday, July 31, an hour and a half later than its regular schedule, as a “mark of respect,” the museum mentioned.
