He’s going from the household patriarch to a wayward son.
British actor Paddy Considine, who starred as King Viserys Targaryen within the “Game of Thrones” spinoff “House of the Dragon,” co-stars within the new Paramount+ present “MobLand” together with Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren.
On Friday, Paramount introduced that “MobLand” broke data as their greatest international sequence launch ever, drawing 2.2 million viewers on premiere day.
“I’m the little kid in the family, even though I’m a grown man. He’s trying to get his dad’s attention and affection on some level and to gain some kind of responsibility, but his dad doesn’t see him that way,” Considine, 51, completely informed The Publish.
In a marked change from “House of the Dragon,” the place King Viserys was in cost, Considine stated about his “MobLand” character, “Kevin’s a character that’s fighting for his voice within that family dynamic.”
“MobLand” (now streaming on Paramount+ with new episodes out Sundays) follows a British crime household. There’s patriarch Conrad Harrigan (Pierce Brosnan), his spouse Maeve (Helen Mirren), his son Kevin (Considine) and Kevin’s personal troublemaker son, Eddie (Anson Boon). Holding all of it collectively is the household’s fixer, Harry Da Souza (Tom Hardy).
Although Considine and Hardy, 47, have been each on the hit British gangster drama “Peaky Blinders,” they didn’t overlap.
“I never met Tom on ‘Peaky,’ but I’ve met Tom a few times over the years, and I went down to his house years ago, and spent the day with him,” Considine defined. “But [‘MobLand’] was a good opportunity to get back in the ring with him.”
He added, “Sometimes you meet people and there’s an unspoken history, and an unspoken sort of respect. There was sort of an unspoken thing between us.”
That could be the case for the actors, however not for his or her characters.
Harry is extra energetic within the Harrigan household, and talks to Conrad extra. Though he’s not a blood relation, he’s nearer to the function of the “favored son” than Kevin.
Considine stated that he thinks Kevin “may be jealous [of Harry] underneath it all.”
“And there’s a mistrust of Harry, even though they have this kind of brotherly relationship. I’m not sure how deep that runs,” he informed The Publish. “I think he definitely… relies on Harry for things, and sees him as an ally.”
However, he added, “there’s an underlying mistrust of everybody from Kevin’s point of view, because he’s been through a lot of things in his life. He’s been through a lot of neglect from his dad, and a strange relationship with his mom. It all gets very kind of strange as it goes on.”
Considine has beforehand labored with Brosnan in 2013’s “The World’s End” alongside Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Martin Freeman.
“He was an absolute gentleman and a really great, great presence,” he recalled about Brosnan, 71, on the Edgar Wright-directed drama.
“So I was really excited to work with him on this. It’s really great to see him flexing those kinds of muscles [playing a ruthless mob boss]. Because he’s an absolute sweetheart. He’s one of the best people you could be around. He’s got a fantastic temperament, and he’s a brilliant actor.”
As for his on-screen mom, he “learned a lot” about watching Mirren, 79, work. “She’s very much got a grasp of this craft of acting. It almost seems so effortless with her because she’s so gifted at what she does,” he stated. “It was great to be in there with some heavyweights.”
