Practically two years after passengers screamed whereas sparks flew down a runway through the touchdown of an Alaska Airways flight, the trigger has been revealed.
A remaining report by the Nationwide Transportation Security Board (NTSB) launched on Tuesday factors to “incorrect” upkeep work.
The flight, which departed from Seattle, Washington, made a tough landing in Santa Ana, Calif., throughout Tropical Storm Hilary after the left principal touchdown gear collapsed on landing.
Video recorded by a passenger captured the airplane slamming into the bottom at excessive velocity. Sparks had been seen flying because the airplane appeared to pull its left wing alongside the tarmac.
Investigators revealed that the incident was brought on by a “fatigue crack” of a metallic trunnion pin, which is a part of the left touchdown gear.

The report added that the pin had endured greater than 4,000 touchdown cycles since present process the 2018 upkeep work.
The crack itself had probably been current for about 800 touchdown cycles, the NTSB discovered.
