Goodbye from New York…
Some “Saturday Night Live” followers consider that present “Weekend Update” hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che are planning to depart after the present landmark Season 50.
Neither Jost, 42, nor Che, 41, has formally spoken out or confirmed the rumors.
In February, Che stated of the sketch present, “I’m not coming back, don’t worry,” throughout a stand-up present on the College of Rochester.
He added, “I’m done, it’s over for me. It’s been so much fun. It’s a little emotional, it’s bittersweet.”
Because it was a stand-up set, it wasn’t clear if it was an actual announcement or a joke, and Che hasn’t clarified or confirmed.
Che and Jost have been the “Weekend Update” anchors for over a decade, since 2014.
That’s longer than the enduring workforce of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who solely hosted “Weekend Update” collectively for 2 years (from 2004 to 2006) regardless of leaving a powerful impression.
“They’ve been the longest-running update anchors for a while,” one fan identified on Reddit, including, “There’s expected to be a decent turnover after the 50th season of people who stayed to be a part of it. Add in his wife hosting the season finale and I wouldn’t be surprised if it is his last episode.”
Scarlett Johansson, 40, who has been married to Jost since 2020, will lead this weekend’s episode, with musical visitor Dangerous Bunny.
Many followers consider that because the actress is internet hosting the Season 50 finale, that’s a setup for Jost’s swan tune.
Throughout a 2024 interview on “The Howard Stern Show,” Jost and Che had been requested about leaving “SNL.”
“I wanna leave because I just feel like I miss stand-up,” Che stated.
Jost chimed in: “I feel like, first of all, you’re very good at it and it is rewarding for you, even though you’re often like, ‘I want to do other stuff.’”
Che confessed, “It’s hard to imagine being gone. My brain is on the clock of ‘Saturday Night Live.’”
“People get burned out in ways you don’t see,” Jost went on. “People get burned out in a different way, when you have that level of heat for a while. It’s hard to keep doing it.”
When Stern requested if they might do “Weekend Update” with out one another if the opposite individual left, each stated no.
“Saturday Night Live” Season 50 ends on Could 17.
