COOPERSTOWN — Andy Pettitte had received 4 World Collection with the Yankees by the point the 2008 season ended and, realizing he would flip 37 the subsequent 12 months, didn’t know if he and the remainder of the Core 4 would decide up one other.
That offseason modified his outlook, because the Yankees went on a free agent spending frenzy and introduced in Mark Teixeira, A.J. Burnett and — most significantly — CC Sabathia, who was coming off a memorable stretch run with the Brewers.
“I knew he was an absolute stud, watching that last month in Milwaukee,” Pettitte mentioned. “I was like, ‘Give me this dude. Bring him aboard.’”
And when the mud settled that offseason, Pettitte had one factor on his thoughts.
